The 8ohms are an Annapolis Based 10 piece horn heavy funk/soul/reggae band. Their sound, while reminiscent of James Brown, Bob Marley and early 70's rare groove, still provides a unique and eclectic perspective in modern music. Billy Martin is a self taught singer/songwriter/musician from Baltimore, MD. Although he is strongly influenced by Funk, Jazz, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Latin and Afrobeat, his first love was actually Gospel. His personal musical style often creates a hybrid of many of these genera's. In addition to his soulful singing voice, Billy also plays the guitar, harmonica & dejembe.
In 2005, under Stay Humble Music, he released his first full length LP "Lessons" as a member of The Big Hurt. That album currently has sales in Australia, Japan, Canada, The US and The UK.
Billy has shared the stage with national artists such as Toot's and the Maytals, Long Beach Shortbus (Sublime & Long Beach Dub All Stars), Jimmies Chicken Shack and Foghat. He is also a veteran of the 2006 HFStival playing on the bill along side Cypress Hill, Kanye West, Matisyahu & The Misfits.
Billy's current project is a Horn Heavy Funk, Soul, Reggae band based out of Annapolis, Maryland called The8ohms.
