About Me
One of the most prominent and sought after voices of reggae music in the Virgin Islands is the raspy vocal stylings of Jahman. Born Jabari Carrington on September 18, 1976, Jahman was raised by his grandmother in Contant, St. Thomas. After attending grade school and socializing with peers, it was inevitable that Jahman would migrate from the hills of Contant to the turf of Garden Street. It was there he found a rhyme and a reason to explore the depths of reggae music. As Jahman matured, he realized that he wanted to be a positive influence despite the many obstacles and negative generalizations he received from many. As a means of achieving this goal, he turned to reggae music and began seeking faith in Rastafari. Like many, he was initially nurtured at Christian ceremonies every Sunday with his grandmother, but as he came into his own, he gravitated towards the calling.

Jahman has been an avid listener of reggae music most of his life, and credits Steel Pulse, Bob Marley, Shabba Ranks, and more recently, Mad Cobra, Sizzla Kalonji, Buju Banton and Notch (formerly of Born Jamericans) as his influences. Jahman has been writing and performing for over a decade, and has represented the Virgin Islands at countless reggae concerts and festivals throughout the Caribbean and the United States. In recent years he toured the East Coast for six weeks with Richie Spice and opened for Morgan Heritage at the Reichhold Center for the Arts in St. Thomas, as well performed at the star-studded Tempo Turns 2 event in St. Croix.

You can hear some of his poignant lyrics and enticing vocals on any of his four studio albums Poverty Struggle, Reggae International, Life as an Artist, and most recently Rasta Endure. Rasta Endure, was published by Splatter House Records and is now available in stores. The album was recorded and produced by I Grade Records in St. Croix, and mixed by Studio 340 in Florida, with outstanding musical arrangements and top-notch sound quality. Although Jahman spits mostly conscious lyrics, his albums are laced with tracks featuring catchy hooks that uplift the youth, celebrate women, embrace Rasta Livity, and encourage righteous living.

Coupling his robust involvement in reggae music with maintaining a higher meditation has kept Jahman grounded, helping him to overcome many challenges and to acquire a resilient spirit on and off the mic. Jahman has the voice of a lion and a style all his own, that guarantees this humble soldier of Jah many more blessed years of success.
